The Forrester Gallery and the Waitaki Whitestone Geopark Trust are collaborating to bring the exhibition “Earth: caught in stone” to Ōamaru in 2022. This exhibition showcases earth science research and its interpretation through art. Many of the exhibits feature earth science topics that are featured within the Waitaki Whitestone Geopark. The exhibition will be in the Forrester Gallery from 02 April - 06 June 2022.
As part of the exhibition, the Curator of the Forrester Gallery and Geoeducator of the Waitaki Whitestone Geopark are offering schools the opportunity to visit and participate in educational activities. Together, they have created activities (in-house and take-away) around some of those exhibits which will allow local students to learn more about their local earth science and express their learnings in art.
We were also able to receive funding from The Lion Foundation to offer bus trips for some of the local schools to participate in these educational activities and visit the exhibition.
Together, we are excited to bring this stimulating exhibition full of local earth science research and art to Ōamaru and inspire local students.
