Waitaki Horse Trails took the time to show us around our beautiful Geopark on horseback.
The Waitaki District is a beautiful area to travel through on four legs just as much as two. Free step through the Waitaki Valley or play around with your horse in the clear waters of the Waitaki River.
There are many options in the District to explore by horse. One can meander alongside Lake Benmore or spot sprout in the Otekaieke River. Keep off the Alps2Ocean track though! Wildlife can be seen at the “hidden gem” of Borton’s pond (note: the pond is part of the local farm irrigation schemes). Trot down the beach by Moeraki Boulders, which is more crowded in summer, so be careful riding your horse and always look out for people on the beach.
You can’t ride your horse everywhere. Keep looking out for horse signs to see where you can ride and where you are not allowed to ride. We all want to enjoy the horse trails, so only take pictures and only leave hoof prints.
