17.06.21 Public talk: A 'VANISHED WORLD' REDISCOVERED

The Waitaki Whitestone Geopark presents:

A 'Vanished World Rediscovered'

A passionate community working together

Join us to learn more about a farming community that treasures its limestone landforms, the unique treasures within and the stories passionately shared with visitors.

A presentation by Mike Gray

Mike fell in love with this district when he purchased a piece of local history, the Tokarahi Homestead. He and his wife Lyn restored it to its previous Victorian splendour. They were quickly adopted by the local community and soon became involved with a variety of local initiatives aimed at reversing rural decline, preserving local assets and growing tourism along the Waitaki Valley.

6 - 7pm Thursday 17 June Ōamaru Library, 62 Thames Street. Please note that events will be postponed during Covid-19 Alert Level 2 or higher!

"What a fantastic window into the past. Today we saw fossil bones in limestone at two different sites. One set were whale bones. Just awesome that this trail has been put together, maintained and promoted."

Vanished World visitor
