New Zealand was once home to the now extinct Moa - one of the biggest birds to have ever lived! The Waitaki Moa Trail links moa and moa-related sculptures throughout the district. Follow the trail to discover different sculptures of these magnificent birds.
You can pick up a free trail guide from the Forrester Gallery & Waitaki Museum. For each spot and moa, there is a patai / question. You can check the answers at the Waitaki Museum.
This trail was developed for the Waitaki Arts Festival 2023! Visit the Forrester Gallery during the Arts Festival to watch our in-house Moa Mural being painted!
