The Geopark team has signed up for this year's Tākina Te Reo programme, offered by the Ōamaru Language School. We are excited to embark on this 26 week full-year beginner journey Te Wana and support the revival of Te Reo Māori in the Waitaki District.

Why is the revival of the Māori Language so important?

Protecting and enhancing Ngāi Tahu's whakapapa, language, tikanga (customs), ways of life and relationship with the land and sea is essential to maintaining the life-force and integrity of the tribe. At the forefront of cultural revitalisation is the tribal te reo Māori language strategy Kotahi Mano Kāika.

"What a fantastic window into the past. Today we saw fossil bones in limestone at two different sites. One set were whale bones. Just awesome that this trail has been put together, maintained and promoted."
