05.12.19 VANISHED WORLD AND WHITESTONE GEOPARK TO CO-HOST FOULDEN MAAR TALK

Vanished World Inc and Friends of Vanished World are to hold an AGM next week on Thursday, 5 Dec, 7pm at the Blind Foundation Hall, 6 Steward street , Oamaru. Afterwards, at 7.45pm, the public are invited to attend a special presentation by Daphne Lee from the University of Otago Geology department, entitled “Saving the Treasures of Foulden Maar”.

Otago is home to many of New Zealand’s most important terrestrial and marine fossil sites and many of its Outstanding Natural Features. However, some of these are under threat from natural processes, as well as mining and other human activities. How can we protect and preserve our fossil treasures and geological features for future generations?

"What a fantastic window into the past. Today we saw fossil bones in limestone at two different sites. One set were whale bones. Just awesome that this trail has been put together, maintained and promoted."
