OTAGO FIELD DAYS 2019

Updated: Nov 4, 2019

The Otago Field Days were held in Palmerston last weekend - so we took Wanda (the Council Caravan) and put up a site about the Whitestone Geopark. Enticed by some delicious Whitestone Cheese, people stopped by and tested their rock and geology knowledge and were either updated or introduced to the progress we have made within the last year. Display boards gave more information on the geosites of Waihemo, the latest news from the Geopark, geogastronomy on-goings and UNESCO Global Geoparks all over the world. The kids (and grown-ups) had a splendid time digging for fossils in a 25 million-year-old limestone block and identifying what kind of shell they found.

Thank you Vanished World Centre and Oamaru Farmers Market for helping us with limestone/rock displays, bean bags etc.

Was it the limestone fossil dig or the free Whitestone Camembert? Whatever it was, heaps of people stopped by and we had some great chats, nice to meet you, everyone!
