Thanks to funding from Network Waitaki's Community Fund, we were able to print another 500 copies of the popular Discovery Trail through the Ōamaru Public Gardens. Make sure to grab yours for the school holidays before they are all gone as they went super quickly last time.

Grab a brochure at any of these places:

  • Presence on Harbour

  • Rose's General Store

  • Oamaru & Waitaki Visitor Centre

  • Oamaru Library

With this trail we want to introduce families to basic map reading skills, the geological history through local rock identification, formation and usage, the local social history that is reflected in the Gardens and active engagement with the environment.

A massive thanks to Network Waitaki who has sponsored the development of this brochure in 2020 and now have also sponsored the reprint of 500 copies through their community sponsorship 'Powering our Community'.

"What a fantastic window into the past. Today we saw fossil bones in limestone at two different sites. One set were whale bones. Just awesome that this trail has been put together, maintained and promoted."
