This event is part of the Geopark Festival 2023.
Entry to the Penguin Colony will be free between 11am and 4pm for visitors to come and hear from experts about fossil and modern penguins, in two talks during the day. There will also be an opportunity to view some penguins inside their nests in the Day-Viewing Room. Suitable for all ages.
2pm: “Diving into the world of little penguin research at Ōamaru” – A presentation by Dr Philippa Agnew, Ōamaru Blue Penguin Colony science and environmental manager.
3pm: “Penguins: evolution of the underwater-flyer” - A presentation by Marcus Richards, a paleontologist at the University of Otago.
